  • Tito morenno Pontes e Souza says:

On the square where the girl is laying on the bed, i didn’t get the meaning of 何ヶ月も. While 何も, どこにも and 誰も have the idea of the ausence of something, 何ヶ月も have the idea many months?

    • Roberta says:

      Yes, 何ヶ月も means “many months.”
The word “何ヶ月” by itself means “how many months.” It is the question word for a quantity. (The answer word, for example “two months” is 二ヶ月.)
The phrase “何ヶ月も” with the verb “続く” (= continue) means “(Something) continues for so many months!” It implies a large number of months, so many that you aren’t even sure how many months.

      • The pattern works like this: question word for a quantity + も + verb.
      • Other examples: I ate so many chocolates! (チョコレートを) いくつも食べた!
So many people (came to my party) = 何人も (来た)
So many pencils (are in this desk) = 何本も (ある)

Yes, previous description with 何も, どこにも and 誰も was not an explanation of usage of も in this context. Right now I just changed the explanation into “Particle も emphasizes the word which comes before it.” but I will create more detailed description with Roberta’s explanation later. Thank you for posting!
